Sharon’s Felted Wedding Dress: Sewing Meets Felting
In honor of this Valentine’s Day, we wanted to share one of Sharon’s biggest labors of love, which just happens to be a symbol of her love. Back in October of 2011, Sharon and her husband Mark celebrated their devotion with a vow renewal ceremony. Sharon, being Sharon, made a felted wedding dress and today we’d like […]
Mary Jane’s Farm Feature
We’re thrilled to share the news with you! Mary Jane’s Farm? The Tin Thimble? Together? Yep. I told Hannah in early 2015 that my T3 goal for her was to get the shop into magazines – boy, did she deliver! We have carried, admired, and drooled over MaryJane’s Farm for quite a few years now. MaryJane’s sourdough starter […]
Japan: Kyoto
Hello! It’s Emma today and it’s been a while. And I’ve been vvvveeeerrryyyy slow in getting this final Japan post to you – I apologize for the delay! While Chris and I were staying in Okazaki we took a day trip to Kyoto and I was determined to squeeze some textiles in! After wandering around […]
Japan: Okazaki + Nagoya
After our time in Tokyo, Chris and I headed south to a smaller town outside of Nagoya called Okazaki. The bullet train ride was awesome. 350 miles per hour – I think that’s right. Is that right? Really fast. I love how the second picture down gives you an idea that we’re moving fast. The […]
Japan: Tokyo
This past September Chris and I visited Japan. It’s a trip that we had been dreaming about (and saving for) for a very long time and…. It. Was. Amazing. The Japanese people were welcoming, friendly, and extremely patient with our limited Japanese language skills (though, I have to brag on Chris that we got around […]
Welcoming in The New Year and Packing up the Holidays
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! All of us here at The Tin Thimble hope that the holiday season treated you well. It’s Emma writing today and I have to say, I’m still in shock that 2015 is upon us. It’s already January 5th people! I was only just warming up to the holiday season when […]
Fire and Ice Dyeing
Debra Hosler joined us here in our little ‘ol classroom for a two-day workshop last month on ice dyeing. Doesn’t that just sound lovely? Well the results were above and beyond what I was expecting and we are looking forward to hosting miss Hosler and her very neat class again in the spring. She had a nice full […]
Sharon’s Wet Felted Capelet
Look at this exquisite thing! Mom made this Melissa Arnold‘s Resist Shaped Felt class. The caplet was created using a batt (to which mom added a montage of fun fibers & hand dyed wool). She incorporated mohair into the center of the “flowers” and a lot of silk into the body. Shibori stitching helped to form the wet felt into […]
The CCO: Sharon Mansfield
While we at The Tin Thimble don’t really have “job titles”, it is safe to say that if we had to designate them, Sharon Mansfield (usually referred to as “mom”) would without a doubt be the Chief Creative Officer. In addition to teaching, she’s been botanical dyeing at home, she took a class with Melissa Arnold and […]
