If you’ve been curious about how to create botanical prints, ‘eco prints’, or natural dyes, or if you have taken other workshops with limited success, we highly encourage you to join Sharon Mansfield to learn to botanical dye. Botanical printing is a big part of the Thimble. We love the process, the results and the hundreds of possibilities it offers. Sharon has spent years testing different types of plants, mordants, fabrics, and dye ‘recipes’ and has recorded all of her findings. Lucky students who enroll in her Botanical Samples Workshop get to spend two full days at her home absorbing her knowledge and learning exact, step-by-step, directions for producing clear botanical prints on fabrics including wool, linen, silk and cotton.
Students in this workshop spend the day at Sharon’s home, on the back deck, overlooking her picturesque backyard, and get to see where she creates all of her beautiful botanical dyed pieces.
In addition to creating leaf and bark prints, students also get to learn how to create different overdye colors from a variety of plants.
Students can learn to botanical dye with eucalyptus..
…or go beyond eucalyptus and experiment with other plants to discover the (amazing!) prints other leaves make.
Students who are interested in this class do not need any previous dyeing experience. Total beginners and those with experience are welcomed to join! This workshop is taking place November 10th and 11th from 9:00 to 5:00 each day. If you are interested in this workshop, please call us at 916-652-2134.

Hello Chandi!
My mother, Sharon, and I are currently taking a hiatus from teaching. We will, however, pick it back up in summer of 2020. Shoot an email to hannah@thetinthimble.com and let us know that you’d like to be notified when we start teaching again. Thanks so much for your interest!
