“I wear a mask. And that mask, it is not to hide who I am, but to create what I am.” – Batman
In this two day workshop, we will be using brilliant peacock and other natural color feathers that I’ve collected the past 33 years to create a feather mask. I will demonstrate several interesting ways feathers can be manipulated and give tips on how to create depth and dimension. You will learn the art of arranging these stunning colors in a pleasing design; your completed feather mask will be made for hanging. Your mask will easily measure up to 28’’. We will cover the processes from preparing the feathers for use to caring for your finished masterpiece. Also will briefly cover the conservation laws that understandably limit our pallet. This will also assist in your ability to collect feathers for your own future use. Come join me for this informative and enjoyable experience!

Lorra Lee Rose’s journey started in 1986. With feathers as her chosen medium, she has cultivated a network of pet owners and aviaries who gather the molted, natural color feathers. Birds shed a small handful of feathers per season, seriously restricting the supply and thus requiring years of patience and preparation. She has been teaching since 1989, from public schools to mixed media art retreats. Self taught, and a recipient of numerous awards, private commissions, showings at art festivals, galleries and exhibits in museums, Lorra Lee has maintained a flourishing career as a prolific artist.
