LEVEL 1: Blending Board Workshop with Clemes & Clemes!

January 19, 2019 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
3750 Taylor Rd
Loomis, CA 95650
$125 + $30 materials fee
The Tin Thimble

In 2011, Henry and Roy Clemes worked with Gwen Powell to design a new fiber preparation tool called a Blending Board. Now wildly popular, Blending Boards are mostly seen as a tool for preparing fiber for woolen spinning. However, they are a remarkably versatile tool that can become an essential piece of equipment in any felter’s arsenal. Learn how to create a base layer of meshed fibers, create custom color blends, use up odds and ends of fiber, “paint” a picture using wool, and include a variety of fibers to add depth and texture to your fiber preparation.

Blending Boards and materials to be provided by instructors. Students may bring clean, washed fiber if they would like recommendations on how to prepare it.

There will be a 1 hour break for lunch from 12:00-1:00 during this class.

Instructors: Henry & Roy Clemes
Class Fee: $125 +$30 materials fee that covers use of a carder, all fiber carded during class, and batt lifter refills for storing carded batts

Students to bring: An attitude for learning. All materials and equipment will be provided by the instructors.

This class will be taught by the tag team of Henry and Roy Clemes. A lifelong woodworker and small business owner, Henry has been building fiber art equipment for over 45 years and drum carders for 38 years. Roy grew up in his family’s woodshop and is one of the few 30-year-olds with 25 years of experience in his field. Together they have introduced many innovations to the fiber arts community and their equipment is known for being not only thoughtfully engineered but visually pleasing and durable as well. They regularly consult and instruct spinners, felters, fiber growers, and professional fiber artists in the use of drum carders for fiber prep.
