In this intensive 1-day sewing workshop, we’ll move through a wide variety of topics to kick off your sewing journey. Whether you know how to turn on a sewing machine, or stare at one with panic, this course is a fun, stress-free, thorough, introduction to everything you need to know to get started. Throughout the day, students will learn how to use a sewing machine, good cutting techniques, and how to read a sewing pattern, all while making an Ogden cami by True Bias patterns. To round out your sewing education, we’ll also cover basic sewing tools, sewing machine troubleshooting, and finishing techniques. This course will move at a fairly quick pace to ensure that we’re able to cover all the topics to get you comfortable with sewing. Please come ready to ask questions, learn, and try new things!
I’m the co-owner of The Tin Thimble, I have a decade of sewing experience and I run my own sewing website, Palindrome Dry Goods, where I post tutorials and pictures of my handmade wardrobe. I hope to become a resource for you as you learn to sew and am looking so forward to these workshops. Sewing is an absolutely fantastic skill to know and I can’t wait to show you that sewing doesn’t have to be scary or stressful. You’ll leave this intensive sewing workshop feeling confident, encouraged, and excited to sew!
You are welcome to bring a sewing machine if you have one, but it must have been serviced in the last 6 months. We simply don’t have time to deal with mechanical issues. If you don’t have a machine, but you still want to take the class, you are more than welcome to borrow one of ours!
Lunch will be provided for this workshop, so please be sure to alert us to any food allergies or restrictions you have.
The cost of the fabric and pattern is included in the class fee. All required tools will be supplied for you to use in the class. Students in each workshop will have three fabric options to choose from and each class’s options will be different. Please note that the fabric options for your project will not include the fabric in the pictures below.
This class will be capped at 5 students to ensure that each student receives the proper amount of attention. The small class size means it will fill up quickly, be sure to register as soon as you can!
