Tatyana’s classes are among some of our most popular. Whether she’s showing students how to create watercolor-like pictures in her Painting with Wool class, or felting iPad cases, we’re always inspired by her designs and thrilled to see her classes full of happy students. Read on to learn more about Tatyana’s creative process and be sure to check out the classes she’ll be teaching below!
When you’re not felting, what hobbies could we find you doing?
Beaded mosaic on high heel shoes. During a trip to Mexico I was impressed with the work of local Indian masters. They worked with wood and ceramic figures of animals and birds covered with colorful and bright mosaics made of beads. Many years ago the Indian masters covered their products with pieces of seashells, colored stones and colorful wool threads. Modern Mexican Indian masters use small glass beads. This type of folk art has been preserved only in one district of Mexico and is a rarity. This gave me inspiration for beaded mosaic shoe art. These shoes are designed only to be admired, in a single copy and one of a kind. My shoes are covered with multi-colored glass beads, semi-precious stones, natural crystals, exotic feathers and natural fur. The glue I make myself using all natural materials which is non- toxic and odorless.
If you have taught at The Tin Thimble before, what do you enjoy about teaching in our store?
I enjoy teaching at the Tin Thimble because this is a great opportunity to communicate with interesting and creative people, make new friends, to learn and to get inspiration. People at Tin Thimble are very positive and always ready to help. The store has a large selection of materials for crafting and I always come home with purchases and new ideas.
What are your favorite types of fibers to work with?
Silk, mohair, merino, corriedale, romney, etc… My favorite types of fibers are merino Wool and Natural Margilan silk.
How do you find inspiration? Nature, magazines, dreams, etc…
I find inspiration during my trips to the ocean, to the forest or the mountains, while reading art magazines. I get a lot of new ideas when I visit exhibitions and art shops.
