Retreat with Carin Engen
Downieville, CA

We are so excited about our first retreat! Downieville is a fantastic,
little, mountain town on the confluence of the Yuba and Downie
Rivers with everything within walking distance. Our family cabin
will be where we eat our meals and indulge in all of the fiber
goodness. Lisa Classon, Sharon's daughter & gourmet chef extraordinaire,
will be cooking for us all weekend (except for a lunch or two in
town - to support the local commerce of course!). Our guests will
either be staying with us in the cabin or in a lodge just across
the way depending on how many people show interest in the retreat.
Carin has so many ideas for us! Here are just a few:
- Fair Isle patterns made easy. Knitting with a yarn in both
hands made easy.......really.
- The sock heel is the first thing to wear out - the removable
heel is a great solution!
- Thrummed, fingerless mittens.
- How to stop hand-dyed yarns from making unwanted stripes.
- Spinning! (and we're bringing wheels for anyone who would like
to give it a try)
- Learn all about fibers - Alpaca, Llama, Silk, Cashmere, Linen,
Hemp and some of the new fibers, like Soy Silk.
- How to reuse yarn from an old sweater.
- Tricks of knitting in the round.
- How to make your own sweater pattern.
